The Christian Church of Brewerton  (Disciples of Christ) was organized in 1853. In 1849 they joined with other religous groups in the forming of a Union Church.  After two years (1851) the Disciples' membership decided to build a new church where they might worship as they chose.  The orginal building was destroyed by fire in 1920, and the present building was completed in 1923.

The Brewerton Disciples of Christ are affilated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), that grew out of the Stone-Campbell Movement as one of the largest religious bodies born in America, organized in 1809.  We subscribe to no formal creed, but accept the New Testament as the rule of faith and practice for the church.  Terms of membership are the same as the apostolic church; a profession of faith, a personal commitment to Christ as Lord and Savior, and baptism.  Members of other churches may be received by letter or transfer or by personal statement of such membership. Today our nearly 3,800 still share these characteristics.

The church is congregationally governed.  A General Assembly consisting of delegates from all participating churches is the instrument of policy and program making.  The world mission is administered by the Division of Homeland Ministeries.  We have missions (including schools and hospitals) in some fifteen foreign countries, some of them ecumenical.  Several colleges and seminaries are members of our board of Higher Education.

The Disciples from the beginning have been committed to Christian Unity. "The church is essentially, intentionally and constitutionally one."  We share in local, state, national and world council of churches.  For any who may be seeking a church home, this church offers membership on the ideals as stated above.  Anyone may make his or her desires known by coming forward in the church service during the singing of the Hymn of Invitation, or by consultation with the pastor.
